AVANTEK COMPUTER TAKES OFF WITH LAUNCH OF NEXT GEREATION ARM SERVERS
An independent British technology firm has launched a next generation ARM server which it has developed to offer a sustainable solution for data centres.
Leicestershire-based Avantek Computer is an approved UK partner for ARM’s innovative technology and, developed through cooperation with Gigabyte Corporation, its new product was on display in the latter’s suite at the prestigious Taiwanese Computex trade show, which was held in Taipei from 31st May to 4th June.
Avantek’s new ARM v8-A 64bit Cavium ThunderX high density server range offers a host of superior technical features, providing an energy-efficient solution to meet the needs of data-hungry organisations and institutions.
Avantek’s ARM-based servers use up to 90 per cent less electricity and cut the energy needed for cooling by up to 50 per cent.
Tony Lees, Managing Director of Avantek Computer, says: “Our new next generation ARM-based servers offer an innovative way for our clients to increase capacity using their existing infrastructure.
“It’s a low-power, high-performance solution that enables clients to maximise efficiency within a constrained environment.
“We’re delighted to have launched these exciting new products at Computex, which is one of the leading platforms for releasing new products and technologies and for global ICT purchasers.”
The Avantek ARM servers are based on Cavium ThunderX CN8890 processors that can utilise up to 384 custom ARM v8-A cores in one SKU, and are high-performance, low-power solutions capable of handling complex data centre requirements.
Using ARM server-on-chip (SoC) technology, the CPU, networking and I/O are all fully integrated in a single server chip.
In addition to the large number of cpu cores, the system features low-power DRAM modules and SSDs, with integrated 10Gb and 40Gb Ethernet connectivity which enables the high bandwidth and low power consumption necessary to deal with the most advanced data applications.
